Cultures of Sharing: Intergenerational Conversations on Nonviolent Futures (Sainsbury Centre, 2026)

Homepage

This book explores a social practice project at Sainsbury Centre with teenagers and their parents. Through artmaking and conversation the group wrestled, across generations, with what we would need to build beyond our current juncture of spiralling economic inequality, genocide, and accelerating climate collapse. Discussions ranged from notions of justice and the prison system, alternative education, to how we might make decisions and what kind of social spaces we would need.

The group were staging rehearsals for a world we wanted to live in, building and developing architectures of our imagination.

In these desperate times, these conversations were a keen reminder of the vitalness of gathering in creative world-building and the boldness and complexity of ideas so many young people have, when given the opportunity to speak and be heard.

How much richer and more capacious our lives would be if we could build more power with and beside young people, acting as if we are already free.
